Another Great Success from Feruza Bobokulova
The Lawyer of PraeLegal Uzbekistan Law Firm, Feruza Bobokulova, was appointed by the World Council of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce as a Member of the Court on June 21, 2018.
The International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (the Court’s Secretariat and the Chamber itself are located at the ICC Headquarters in Paris, France) is one of the highly respected and prominent institutions for resolving international commercial disputes and business disputes arising from trade and investment. Founded in 1923 as an arbitration body of the ICC, the International Court of Arbitration has become the pioneer among international arbitration institutions.
The Court consists of the President, Vice-presidents, members, and alternate members (collectively referred to as members). As of July 1, 2018 the ICC Court has 1 President, 17 Vice-presidents, 117 Court Members, and 60 alternate members. The Secretariat assists the Court in its work. The President of the Court is elected by the ICC World Council on the recommendation of the Executive Committee of the ICC. The ICC World Council appoints Vice-presidents of the Court from the members of the Court or other persons. Members of the Court are appointed by the World Council of the ICC based on proposals of National Committees or Groups, one from each National Committee or Group.
This World Council of the ICC Court appointed the citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Feruza Bobokulova, as a member of the Court. For the first time in 27 years of independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the ICC Court, which is one of the most reputable and prominent institutions in the world specializing in international disputes, appointed a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
There are over 1,300 arbitrators of the International Court of Arbitration of the ICC whereas only 117 persons serve as Court Members. F. Bobokulova was appointed as a Member of the ICC Court, that is, one of the 117 members. Within context of any jurisdiction this can be equated to a judge of the Supreme Court. Moreover, Feruza Bobokulova is the youngest member of the ICC Court ever appointed.
