Jamsheed has been a member of the Bar of United Kingdom and Wales since 2002 and a member of the Mauritian Bar since 2006.
Education
He holds an LL.M. degree in International Business Law from the University of London and a D.E.A. in Private International Law and International Commerce from the Sorbonne Law School (University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) where he is also currently writing a Ph.D. thesis in international arbitration law.
Experience
Jamsheed obtained experience in key areas at the leading London commercial set, 3 Verulam Buildings, where he worked on several cases including on international banking and finance, trusts, corporate litigation, trade and shipment of commodities, intellectual property law and outsourcing worldwide after-sale services in relation to technology products.
Before joining our chambers, he worked at the Paris office of the magic-circle international law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer on various matters involving private as well as public international law and including several major cross-border commercial and investment arbitrations.
Jamsheed’s expertise in Alternative Dispute Resolution is acknowledged in Mauritius and the region. He has been appointed by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Commission on Arbitration as Rapporteur on the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Mauritius and has, together with pre-eminent international arbitrators, trained practitioners on arbitration law and practice.
As a Senior Lecturer at the Sorbonne in Paris, his mandate covered private international law for the Master’s Degree in Business Law, French “droit civil” including contract law and “responsabilité délictuelle” and the English laws of contract and unjust enrichment. Jamsheed has also been a Junior Research Fellow of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law. He has published articles and participated in international conferences.
Jamsheed has for several years been part of our team at the Chambers of A.R.M.A. Peeroo SC GOSK. He has worked on various high-profile domestic and international deals and/or disputes involving property development, infrastructure financing, building and maintenance, importation and distribution of technology products, bio-technology and E-commerce and a multi-million USD sale of petroleum derivatives.
His practice as a barrister covers numerous areas including arbitration, banking and finance, business and commercial law, company law and corporate disputes, domestic and international contracts, employment law, insurance law, intellectual property law, investment laws and regulations, professional negligence, property and land law, public procurement and tenders, taxation law and treaties and conventions law.
