Clint Christopher O’Connel
Clint is a New Zealand tax advisor with over 12 years of experience in tax consulting. Having previously worked for KPMG in New Zealand and Vietnam, and PricewaterhouseCoopers and DFDL in Cambodia, he is uniquely positioned to advise foreign investors on the tax implications, tax strategies and optimal tax structuring with respect to their contemplated transactions and projects in Cambodia.
Clint has worked professionally in Cambodia for over six years, and in that time has been involved in some of the largest private transactions in Cambodia, most notably, the merger of Axiata and Smart Mobile (awarded by Acquisition International as Cambodia’s Deal of the Year 2013). His practice focuses on corporate M&A, telecommunications, the oil and gas, and mining sectors, qualified investment projects, due diligence work, tax advisory and tax audit. He advises a wide range of clients, from large globally-listed companies to small- and medium-sized businesses.
Clint is widely recognized for his work. He is a regular contributor to the International Tax Review and Bloomberg BNA’s Tax Planning International Asia-Pacific Focus journal and also guest lectures at CamEd with respect to their “Tax in Cambodia” course. He was the senior editor of the comprehensive textbook Tax in Cambodia, the most complete tax guide with respect to Cambodia, which is used as the standard textbook by CamEd students.
